Chuck’s Podcast with Gary Sullivan #2 – Pipe Lining and Sewer Repair Basics

With our years of experience at CME Pipe Lining & Sewer Repair, we are always looking for opportunities to share what we have learned with others. In the past, you might have heard or read about our conversations with Gary Sullivan on At Home with Gary Sullivan. On one of his most recent podcasts, we discussed the trenchless pipe lining process and how it allows us to solve some of the most common drain and sewer problems in the greater Cincinnati area.

Learn more about our trenchless solutions and get to know our owner, Chuck Menkhaus, by listening here!

Beginning at 153:40, we discuss our trenchless pipe lining processes at CME Pipe Lining and how they do not require any excavation or intrusive measures to repair cracked, broken, eroded or leaky pipes. Most residential, commercial, and industrial clients do not want to turn to excavation when it comes to sewer repair or replacement, which is why trenchless technology has grown and continues to grow in popularity. Our pipe lining process is seamless, and we use only the best equipment and materials to repair all defective pipes with the minimum amount of disruption and destruction.

Signs Your Pipes Need to be Lined

The most common signs your Cincinnati Tri-State Area property needs pipe lining or trenchless sewer repair are slow flushing drains, laundry room backups, sewer smell and/or interior or exterior flooding. The cause of these problems could be cracked, broken, or collapsed pipes resulting from the ground around them shifting, or the pipes may have been corroded or become eroded with long-time use. One of the most common causes of pipe damage is the penetration and growth of tree roots inside your pipes, which leads to clogging and eventually breakages. Trenchless pipe lining is the best way to virtually permanently solve these problems because it restores the structural and physical integrity of your existing pipes without the need to excavate the surrounding area to replace them.

How We Rehabilitate and Restore Your Cincinnati Pipes

As we discussed with Gary Sullivan, our pipe lining process always begins with a thorough camera inspection to assess the state of your pipes and the cause of your issues. This allows our team to quickly see the cause of your pipe problems and determine the best way to fix the issue once and for all. Once the sewer camera inspection is complete, we prepare your pipe for lining with a thorough, chemical-free and environmentally sound, cleaning procedure (hydro-jetting) that ensures your pipes have a clean and clear surface for the new liner to mold to.

Pipe lining is the most reliable method of pipe repair because it does not require digging large trenches across your property, which in some cases requires the removal of trees, landscaping, or structures. Depending on the extent of the pipe’s damage, the job may even be completed in a single day, which is not uncommon. This service is also ideal for commercial businesses and manufacturing plants, for whom the cost of downtime or closure can be more than significant. One of the most common misconceptions that Gary Sullivan brought up on his podcast is that pipe lining is not able to restore a missing section of a pipe. While it is not an ideal situation, at CME Pipe Lining, we have found ways to line missing sections of pipe and to restore the structural and physical integrity of the line without the need for a full or partial replacement, in turn eliminating the need for expensive, time-consuming and potentially dangerous excavation. No matter the problem, we will always define the least-painful solution for our customers – even if that solution is one that someone better suited will implement.

The Environmental Benefits of Trenchless Pipe Lining

Trenchless pipe lining has many benefits, including its cost-effectiveness (it’s a one and done lifetime fix for your pipe) and time-efficiency (faster and less disruptive than traditional dig pipe repair). One of its more overlooked benefits, however, is its environmental friendliness. CME Pipe Lining & Sewer Repair has over 8 years of experience providing reliable trenchless sewer repair services for residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers throughout Cincinnati and its surrounding communities.

Trenchless Pipe Lining Eliminates the Need for Harsh Chemicals

Trenchless pipe lining is a safe and effective sewer repair service. We don’t utilize any harsh chemicals and our state-of-the-art equipment minimizes, if not eliminates, any damage or harm that could otherwise come to you or your property. Instead of using harsh and caustic substances to restore your pipes, we use high-pressure water or augers to clear the pipe and then line it with a resin-saturated non-woven liner. We either utilize an existing access point or dig a small one and invert a flexible, epoxy resin saturated liner into your damaged Cincinnati pipe. Epoxy resin is safe, non-toxic, and designated for use in trenchless pipe repair projects. Using hydraulics, we carefully invert the liner into place, fill the bladder inside the liner with steam or hot water pressing the liner against the interior of the damaged pipe, where it is allowed to cure and harden, building a brand new pipe inside the entire length of the old one.

Trenchless Pipe Lining Eliminates the Need for Damaging Excavation

Traditional sewer and process pipe repair requires heavy machinery, large crews, and extensive excavation. We understand that nobody enjoys seeing their indoor or outdoor space dug into messy and dangerous trenches, and trenchless technology has allowed us to virtually eliminate the digging. Depending on the location of the pipe to be repaired, the required excavation can damage yards, driveways, porches, foundations, landscapes, and any other property elements, but it can also churn up buried soil contaminants. Arsenic, mold, and other potentially hazardous substances that are exposed by excavation can reduce your air quality and impact your health. State-of-the-art trenchless pipe lining is minimally-disruptive. With only a few technicians and a short amount of time, we can build an entirely new seamless pipe that will work effectively for decades, without harming your property, hurting your health, or hampering the earth.

Signs Your Industrial Pipes Need Trenchless Repair

At CME Pipe Lining & Sewer Repair, we understand the nature of your industrial pipe systems inside and out. Our technicians are experienced and focused on rehabilitating, among others, industrial process, ventilation, and sewer pipes, using our proven trenchless pipe repair process. Trenchless pipe repair is a relatively new concept in the pipe repair industry, utilizing cutting-edge technology to minimize the stress, expense and duration of your pipe repair service.

Why Might My Business Require Trenchless Pipe Repairs?

Over time, the various liquids and waste materials running through your pipes pipes will cause corrosion, erosion, buildup and eventually blockages. Unfortunately, pipe damage is usually not recognized until it is significant enough to create visible, audible and/or smell-able symptoms: slow drainage, gurgling, odors. Pipe systems are generally designed to withstand the environment they are in for a period of decades, but we have seen instances where the wrong pipe was installed for the high-temperature wastewater running through it, and if your plant is an older one, those pipes may be quite a ways through their lifecycle already. If you are concerned that your pipes may be compromised in some way, or if you are experiencing the symptoms of comprised pipes, be sure to contact a service provider that is experienced in your specific industrial environment, like CME.

Trenchless Repairs Resolve Many Common pipe Problems

The need for trenchless repairs can be determined with a fairly simple diagnostic process. If your industrial property has landscaping or foliage that intersects a damaged pipe beneath it, you may notice a discolouration of the area around where the damaged pipe sits. In the event that the damaged pipe is located inside your property, backed-up floor drains are another clear sign of the need for trenchless pipe repairs. In some cases, the only sign that your pipes are damaged would be an increase in the cost of your sewage services, or of your water usage. In the event that you observe any of these conditions, contact a trenchless pipe repair expert like CME Pipe Lining to fully and precisely diagnose the problem and resolve it.

    Chuck’s Podcast with Gary Sullivan

    pipe lining CME sewer repair

On December 1, 2018, our owner, Chuck Menkhaus, was invited to speak on Gary Sullivan’s podcast, “At Home with Gary Sullivan.” The podcast is focused on providing home improvement and maintenance tips to its listeners. Gary also regularly discusses the latest and greatest technologies that could be beneficial to any property owner.

For more than twenty years, CME has been the Cincinnati tri-state area’s trusted sewer and pipe repair professionals. On February 1, 2011 CME lined its first sewer pipe, and even though pipe lining was first introduced to the sewer industry in the 1970’s, we understand that the process can be confusing. That is why we love having the opportunity to educate our community and customers whenever possible.

At CME, our goal is to provide a comprehensive and thorough service that fully addresses the rehabilitation of your underground sewer and/or plumbing system. When we were invited to appear on “At Home with Gary Sullivan,” we were excited to be able to share our down-to-earth industry knowledge and lining experience with the community that has trusted us over the last two decades.

In the podcast, we go over a number of subjects related to the history of pipe lining technology, its materials, and the common problems associated with aging underground sewer and wastewater systems. Many residential, commercial and even industrial buildings now have aging pipes, and our goal is to rehabilitate their entire underground piping system without any unnecessary excavation and subsequent reconstruction costs. With our years of experience, we understand how the surrounding infrastructure of a property, such as landscaping, is an intrinsic value of the property, and nobody likes to see their property destroyed due to an unseen, underground issue.

Fortunately, trenchless technologies allow us to repair most underground pipes with the least possible disturbance so that your home and/or business experience minimal disruption and inconvenience. During the podcast, we fully detail our pipe-lining process and how it is ultimately much more affordable than the traditional dig-and-replace method.

Our final subject in this podcast details when you should look to call the pipe-lining experts at CME. Although you may try your best to perform regular maintenance on your aging and deteriorating underground sewer and/or plumbing system, unexpected repairs are still going to be unavoidable. If you notice any air releasing from your pipes (gurgling) and/or water pooling in your drains or yard, then contact our team of professionals as soon as possible to come take a look. We always perform initial camera inspections to identify and accurately diagnose the problem, before proposing any type of repair. These camera inspections are recorded and shared with you so that you may see the issues for yourself. We hope you enjoy listening and let us know if you have any questions.

Why you want to hire a company that doesn’t use subcontractors

Sewer and drain cleaning, repair, and replacement can be an intimidating process to home and business owners. When making the decision to seek out professional assistance with your sewer and drain pipes, it is important to understand how the company is going to carry out the services you need done. Are they a full-service company that is going to put in the work in to ensure your satisfaction? Or are they a company that hires someone else to do the work that you’re paying them for?

While this may seem like extra work for you, it is essential in protecting your Ohio property from damaging results that your hard-earned money is going into. Here are three quick reminders about why you don’t want to work with a company that uses subcontractors:

Credibility of Ohio Sewer Repair Companies

Seeking out a credible company that does not hire someone else to do the work for them shows that they are willing to meet your specific needs and care about you as their customer. When searching for a company to assist you with your sewer and drain needs, check to see if they have up-to-date reviews on sites like Yelp that allow you to become familiar with the work that they do. If you cannot find any reviews of the company itself, you know that they are probably not going to have your best interest at heart.

Responsibility of Sewer and Drain Companies

When a company is hiring subcontractors to do the work for them, they are not taking responsibility for the work you are paying them for. If subcontractors are working on your residential, commercial, or municipal property and something goes wrong, it is more than likely that they are not going to feel obligated to inform you about every detail of their work. This also takes the pressure of off the company because the damage being done was not a direct result of their work. You want to work with a company that is honest with you during every step of the process.

Reliability of Sewer and Drain Services

When you’re experiencing sewer or drain problems, you only want to make sure that the services you need done are completed in a timely and effective manner. It is an inconvenience for you to have to additional stress about whether or not the services will work, and more importantly, whether or not the company you hire will be there when they need to. Working with a company that you can directly rely on is vital to the function of your property and the satisfaction of your family, customers, and residents.
